Outlook (classic)
The followiong guide will assist you in setting up your @ecn.net.au email account using Outlook (Classic).
Prerequisites
Ensure you have the following before starting the setup:
- Email address: username@ecn.net.au
- Email password
- Outlook (Classic) installed on your computer
Step 1: Open Outlook (Classic)
- Launch Outlook (Classic) from the Start menu or desktop.
- If this is the first time opening Outlook, the setup wizard will launch automatically.
- If Outlook is already configured with another account, go to:
File → Account Settings → Account Settings → New.
Step 2: Add a New Email Account
- In the Add Account window, select Email Account and click Next.
- Enter the following details:
- Your Name – Your full name (appears on outgoing emails).
- Email Address –
username@ecn.net.au
. - Password – Your email password.
- Click Next.
Outlook will attempt to automatically retrieve and configure the incoming and outgoing mail server settings.
Step 3: Configure Advanced Settings (If Needed)
- If Outlook prompts you for additional settings or manual configuration:
- Ensure IMAP is selected as the account type.
- Enter your full email address as the username.
- Click More Settings... and navigate to the following:
- Outgoing Server tab:
- Tick My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication.
- Select Use the same settings as my incoming mail server.

- Incoming server (IMAP):

Click OK to return to the main setup screen and click Next.
Step 4: Complete the Setup
- Outlook will test the connection to ensure the settings are correct.
- If the test is successful, click Close and then Finish.
- Restart Outlook to finalise the configuration.
Testing the Configuration
- In Outlook, go to File → Account Settings → Account Settings.
- Select your account and click Test Account Settings.
- Verify that the test completes successfully.
Troubleshooting Tips
- Unable to Connect: Verify that the username and password are correct, you can use ECN Webmail to test.
Accessing Webmail
You can also access your email online by visiting ecn.net.au/mail and logging in with your email address and password.
